Secure, trusted elections are the only legitimacy leaders in a democracy can claim

If you view the fabric of our nation, the threads from which it is woven are each one minor yet necessary. Some are stained by the blood of those who have fought to build our nation, others stained by those who have fought to preserve and protect. But even more, most even, are merely representative of all of us who participate in the daily and routine business of our country. And the most basic threads, the foundational stitches that connect every other thread is our vote, our power to be heard, and our knowledge that the outcome of our collective voice is fairly accounted.We all can see how fragile democracy is, for we have seen it fail to thrive, flounder, fall apart all over the world in which we have served. By now we must also know that even our own democracy is fragile, and needs the supports we have long given to others. Whatever service we may have been party to around the world should pale in comparision to the service we can and should now provide here.
