Free and fair elections are the foundation of self-government. Three commitments are non-negotiable: that every eligible vote is counted, that all candidates accept the results once they are certified, and that power transfers peacefully from one administration to the next. These are not partisan positions. They are the basic obligations of citizenship in a constitutional republic—the rules that hold whether you win or lose, whether your party is in power or out. I have spent my career defending the rule of law and democratic institutions, and I believe upholding these principles is an elemental civic duty that every candidate, regardless of political orientation, should be willing to affirm.
