Jason Carter

Carter Center Board of Trustees, Chair, Private Attorney
My grandfather once said, “In our democracy, the only title higher and more powerful than that of president is the title of citizen.” Whether you’re a former U.S. president or any other American citizen, we share one responsibility:upholding the principles our elections were built on: honest process, nonviolent campaigns, secure voting, responsible oversight and trusted outcomes. These principles aren’t about politics. They’re about ensuring that our elections remain credible, secure and worthy of our confidence. That's the responsibility I'm asking you to share. Visit PrinciplesForTrustedElections.org and take action. Affirm these common-sense principles and use the resources there to learn how elections work — and how they're protected. Then put them into practice: talk with your family and friends, serve as a poll worker, tour an election center, or find your own way to strengthen the process we all depend on. My grandfather believed citizenship was democracy's highest title because it carries real responsibility. This is ours to carry. Let's carry it together.
