The Principles for Trusted Elections offer a unifying response:
a way for Americans to affirm shared values and lead with integrity.
Together, the five pillars for trusted elections define what makes elections trustworthy
and reflects the ideals that keep our democratic republic strong.

Honest Process

Elections must be conducted with honesty, impartiality, and in accordance with the rule of law. All eligible voters should have equal and unobstructed access to the voting process.

Nonviolent Campaign

A healthy democracy depends on campaigns that are free from violence, threats, or intimidation. Voters must be able to participate safely and peacefully throughout the entire election period.

Secure Voting

Every eligible vote must be counted and every effort to secure the process must also preserve access. Election systems must be protected from interference while remaining inclusive and transparent.

Responsible Oversight

Transparent elections require responsible oversight. All participants – poll watchers, administrators, and observers – must understand and respect their roles, duties, and boundaries.

Trusted Outcomes

Trust in outcomes depends on legal resolution of disputes and a peaceful transfer of power. Once results are certified and all lawful challenges resolved, their legitimacy must be upheld.
